Accreditation Canada International commends Philippines health care organizations

(Ottawa, Canada – November 23, 2012) Four leading health care organizations in the Philippines were celebrated today by Accreditation Canada International (ACI) during the Philippine Hospital Association 63rd Annual National Convention. The Manila Doctors Hospital, the Philippine Heart Center, the Asian Eye Institute and Clinica Manila were all commended by Mrs. Marcelle McPhaden, Regional Manager, for their successful implementation of Qmentum International™ and their on-going commitment to continuous quality improvement.
In 2010, the four organizations began implementing Qmentum International™, ACI’s accreditation program, and all are now successfully accredited. Qmentum International™ is known for its rigorous and comprehensive standards library, and the implementation of the program is evidence of a health care organization’s commitment to the highest standards of quality care, patient safety, and service delivery.
Manila Doctors Hospital is a leading private acute care provider and teaching institution in Manila. Dr. Bernadette Hogar-Manlapat, Head of Quality Management, noted: “Accreditation Canada International’s best practice standards drive quality, allow for cultural adaptation and creativity in how best practices are implemented and uses a collaborative approach that shows respect for local expertise. Going through accreditation with Accreditation Canada International is not a test, but rather an ongoing supportive partnership for quality improvement.”
The Philippine Heart Center is the only public hospital to undergo international accreditation. Dr. Gerardo Manzo, who now serves on ACI’s Qmentum International Advisory Committee notes “Accreditation with ACI is not merely an inspection, it is a collaboration with peers to gain insights and find opportunities for future improvement. “
Clinica Manila is a primary care and wellness clinic at SM Megamall. Dr. Hernando Delizo, CEO, spoke highly of working with ACI, suggesting the level of client support is a defining feature of ACI’s unique approach to accreditation. “Accreditation with Accreditation Canada International is a fantastic experience. ACI enthusiastically assisted us in understanding standards content and application. Their program is excellent since it is more client-oriented and we feel that we are working with real partners in our quality journey.”
The Asian Eye Institute is a private clinic that provides ambulatory eye care. CEO, Mr. Benjamin Liboro, noted that the insight of the surveyors is a key in making accreditation with an ACI an effective tool for improving quality. “The expertise and generosity Canadian surveyors put forth by sharing their experiences were truly remarkable and very much appreciated. The understanding, compassion and whole-hearted support and effort of the Accreditation Canada International team have inspired us to continue serving our patients with only the best and highest level of patient care.”
